Richmond: Printed and Published by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press, 1923. First English edition, 8vo, 35, (1, 1 advertisement, 1) pp. Signature to paste down of Stephen C. Morland. Original marbled boards with a paper label to the upper cover - Gallup's first state label, one of three used without precedence. Top and inner edges faded with the ends of some old tape repairs still in place, recently rebacked in blue cloth and held in a folding box. A highpoint of modernism, Eliot's ground-breaking work published and indeed typeset by one of the other major figures in the movement. Virginia Woolf wrote to Barbara Bagenal in 8 July 1923 saying "I have just finished setting up the whole of Mr. Eliots [sic] poem with my own hands: You see how my hand trembles. Don't blame your eyes. It is my writing..." Gallup A6c. "...about 460 copies printed".
