Peloponnesus: Notes of Study and Travel.
London: John W. Parker and Son, 1858. Sole edition. 8vo. xiv, (ii), 344, (8) pp. Publisher's dark blue cloth, gilt lettering to the spine, inscribed on the front free endpaper "The Rev. The Master of Trinity College with the author's kind regards". 5 maps - 4 full page another folding. Bumping to the head of the spine, small strip of the rear joint fraying but sound, very good overall. An interesting association copy. Trinity College, Cambridge was the author's alma mater; after finishing his studies he was made a Fellow and also held other positions within the university. Clark used the long academic holidays to embark on a number of European journeys which he published books about. He spent his time in Greece in the spring of 1856 with the scholar William Hepworth Thompson, who later held the position Master of Trinity College between 1866 and his death in 1886. Given the inscription refers to "The Rev." we can assume that it must be to his travelling companion and fellow classicist Thompson rather than his predecessor as Master, the scientist William Whewell.
