First two volumes (Chichester and Bramber) first edition, third volume (Arundel) "New Edition", plus the very rare first edition of the Arundel volume, large 4to. 83 plates - two double page and four in colour, 19 maps and plans - 15 double page or folding and including two geological maps in the Bramber volume. Marbled endpapers and edges, bookplates of Charles and Mary Lacaita of Selham. Contemporary calf with gilt decorated borders and the arms of George Leveson-Gower, Duke of Sutherland, to the covers, rebacked to style with brown and black labels. A very scarce set due to a fire at the printers in 1819 which destroyed 300 (of 500) copies of the Chichester volume and almost the entire run of the original Arundel volume, with only 30 copies surviving. Only 200 copies of the new edition of Arundel and Bramber were published. Item #46698
