London: John Murray, 1918. First edition. 8vo. xviii, (ii), 316 pp. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt to the spine and upper board, inscribed on the front free endpaper "Doctor J. Milne. With the Authoress' kindest regards & best wishes. Malta 5th April, 1924", her calling card inscribed with her "kindest regards" is loosely inserted. Frontispiece portrait plus another portrait of the author later on. Slight marking to the cloth, very good overall. Born in Constantinople in 1839, Blunt was the daughter of a British diplomat and was raised in Bursa. She later married another British diplomat, Sir John Elijah Blunt, who also served in the Levant, primarily in Macedonia. In 1878 she published the two volume work "The People of Turkey: Twenty Years' Residence Among Bulgarians, Greeks, Albanians, Turks, and Armenians". Later in life she settled in Malta, where she passed away in 1926. Item #46473
