First edition in English, limited edition, no. 283 of 350 copies, small folio, 218, (2) pp. Frontispiece and wood engraved chapter headings plus a folding map, four page prospectus loosely inserted. Original green buckram, gilt vignette to upper cover, brown morocco label, mild rubbing to extremities and a couple of light marks otherwise a very good copy. A Swedish botanist who was added to Cook's party when they reached the Cape in October 1772, Sparrman is best known for his account of a voyage to South Africa and studies of the people there.
