Metropolitan Improvements. Plan of the Proposed Charing Cross & Strand Improvements; Plan of the Proposed New Street from New London Bridge to the Bank; [Thames Tunnel].

London: E. Mogg, May 16, 1827. Overall dimensions 56 x 44 cm. Single sheet incorporating three panels featuring various redevelopments in central London: 1. the triangle between the Strand, St. Martin's Avenue and what is now Duncannon Street (also featuring the putative plans for what became Trafalgar Square); 2. the proposal for what has become King William Street (also featuring an illustrated view of proposed improvements to the north side of the bridge); 3. three compartments showing a cross section of the river, a map of the route and an illustration of the Thames Tunnel, some original colour, folded three times. Several small holes, mostly at the intersection of the folds, else very good. Published as a supplement to Mogg's maps of the city which, due to its rapid expansion and numerous civic works, were quickly appearing out of date. A decorative and fascinating piece of London cartographic ephemera. Item #34255
