London: Printed for Robert Milbourne, 1626. First edition, 8vo in 4s, (viii), 118, (2 blank) pp. Title browned with some creasing and minor loss to edges, final 4 leaves and blank with light damp staining. Recent half calf over 19th century marbled sides. A "religious controversialist and spy", Owen spent long periods on the continent apparently in the service on his country, although not a great deal is known of his exact movements. He composed a Spanish grammar (1605) as well as this guide to the various centres of English Catholicism, republished in 1629 as "Speculum Jesuiticum, or, The Jesuites looking glasse". "...from the contents of his writings after 1625 it is clear that Owen's religious viewpoint had changed from that of the moderate Anglican... to that of the crusading puritan who was determined to reveal to the English the menace of Catholic religious orders..." (ODNB). STC 18996. Item #32151
