(viii), 467, (1) pp. Publisher's orange cloth, printed to all sides with the lettering now very worn, signature to the front free endpaper, another owner's name to the head of the title page with a corresponding gift inscription from that owner to the head of page 1. Marking and wear to the covers, contents neatly recased, slight discolouration to the endpapers. The owner's signature on the title page would appear to be that of Elizabeth Underwood Lisle (1821-1925). There are several newspaper accounts of her life preserved online that refer to her being presented at the royal court in the early 1840s and being acquainted with many famous figures of the Victorian age including the writers Robert Browning, Charles Dickens and Alfred Tennyson as well as Benjamin Disraeli and Florence Nightingale.
