Each volume inscribed from the author to his secretary, Doris Farr, dated between September 1930 and January 1931. Cloth, d.w.'s with some mild edge wear, front wrapper of "Romeo and Juliet" torn without loss. Three of the inscriptions allude to Farr's involvement in preparing the manuscripts - "To Doris Farr (who typed it)..." in one, and "To 'Tuppenny' (the Typist)..." in another, while the inscription in "Checkmate" reads "To Doris Farr (not that she did much of this one!)..."
