Three parts plus the index in two volumes, each from their respective first subscription editions of 595 copies. 4to. 600; (601)-1143, (1) pp. Publisher's brown cloth, gilt lettered to the spines and with a gilt portrait of the author to both of the upper boards, dust jackets, not price clipped, prospectus and order form for the first volume loosely inserted. Profusely illustrated throughout. Thin vertical stain to the jacket spine of the first volume, that of the second volume sunned, a few minor marks and occasional mild wear to both, a decent set overall. The first publication of the greater part of this monumental work, appearing three centuries after Aubrey had originally compiled his manuscript. Regarded as the "the foundation text of modern archaeology" (ODNB), the original is held by the Bodleian Library and includes a fourth part, never printed. Item #41644
