Item #37679 Apocrypha [only]. BIBLE.
Apocrypha [only].
Apocrypha [only].

Apocrypha [only].

[Likely London: Robert Barker, 1613 or later]. 4to bound in eights. (162) pp., signatures [Ss7]-Eee2. Later half mottled calf over cloth boards, the blindstamped spine with bands and a gilt lettered green label, the first page with early manuscript repeating the word "Apocrypha", a few other instances of marginalia through the text. The margin of the first leaf slightly ragged, some general patina to the text, otherwise very good, the spine worn with loss to the ends and a small patch towards the lower edge. Possibly Herbert, 323 also ESTC, S121317. Without a title page or colophon it is not possible to identify which Bible this Apocrypha would originally have been published within. However, textual points suggest that this is a black letter edition of the King James Version. The first authorised edition appeared in folio in 1611 and the first black letter 4to edition two years later. Herbert mentions that the Apocrypha in this edition ends on signature Eee2 and that the headlines and marginal references are in roman type, both as here, indicating it is from this edition or a close matching reprint.
