A View of Sir Isaac Newton's Philosophy.
London: S. Palmer, 1728. First edition, 4to, (50), 407, (1) pp. 12 folding plates plus numerous decorative head and tail pieces and initials, armorial bookplate of John Grenfell, inscribed underneath "To [Admiral?] Sidney Grenfell from his mother". Contemporary calf, a little scuffed with an old repair to the lower cover, recently rebacked with a red morocco spine label. Newton met Pemberton late in life and was initially wary of the younger man before they became close correspondents, so much so that Pemberton was entrusted to edit of the third edition of the Principia Mathematica, the last to appear in Newton's lifetime. Although this work is generally considered to offer no great insights into Newton's theories, it does provide a good introduction to the great scientist's work. Item #37594
