1907. Overall dimensions 92 x 123 cm. A standard one inch Ordnance Survey map of the region with the route of the King's drive from Cardiff Castle up to Caerphilly and his route back to Cardiff Central railway station highlighted in red, dissected into 16 sections and mounted on linen, a small label to the lower left indicates that the map was mounted thus by a W. Lewis of Duke Street, Cardiff, red morocco panels to the folded end sections, one side featuring the gilt arms of the city and the above title. An excellent example. A special commemorative production to mark the royal visit. Edward VII had sailed to Cardiff with his wife and daughter in the Royal Yacht in order to celebrate the opening of the city's brand new Queen Alexandra Dock. After the opening ceremony the royal family attended the opening of the new Edward VII Avenue before lunching in Cardiff Castle. In the afternoon they travelled by car to Caerphilly before returning to Cardiff to embark on the train journey back to London. No other copies of the map have been traced, it was possibly produced in small numbers to be gifted to dignitaries rather than being made for open sale. Item #37567
