1803. Small folio. (ii); 9, (3); (iv), 82, (4); (vi); (viii); 201, (1); (ii), 131, (1) pp., the pages also continuously numbered in contemporary manuscript (449, (1) pp.) with a corresponding handwritten index to the front of the volume. Recent brown half calf over old marbled boards, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered label. Very good. A fascinating and statistically rich collection of official papers relating to the company's accounts between Britain and the sub-continent at probably the height of its powers. The first of the larger sections covers the "possible resources" plus the annual revenues and civil & military charges for the three Presidencies and centres of commerce: Bengal (Fort William), Madras (Fort St. George) and Bombay with a few brief sections on Fort Marlborough (Indonesia), St Helena and the factory at Canton. The largest section covers the import and export of goods by the company through 74 English and Welsh ports. London, Liverpool and Bristol obviously feature prominently but the accounts methodically list many of the smaller ports around the country with a breakdown on the large number of stock types being moved in and out of the country. The last set of accounts does the same for Scotland although the breakdown goes by year, then type of stock, followed by the port and the quantities involved. Item #37161
