Berlin Diary. The Journal of a Foreign Correspondent 1934-1941.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1941. 8vo. (iv), vi, (ii), 605, (1), xxi, (i) pp. Publisher's burgundy cloth, silver lettered and decorated to the spine and upper board, top edge red, dust jacket, signed by Shirer on the half title, an unrelated early ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. A little wear and tear with very small losses to the spine ends and corners of the jacket, very good overall. The Berlin correspondent for the American broadcaster CBS, Shirer went on to publish "End of a Berlin Diary" in 1947, covering the latter stages and aftermath of the Second World War and the Nuremberg Trials. In 1960 his most famous work was published, "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany". A first, or at least very early, edition published "June 20, 1941", there being two early issues with different bindings and jackets for which we have not been able to establish a precedence.
