First edition. 8vo. xix, (i), 362 pp. Nineteenth century brown half calf over marbled boards, gilt ruled compartments to the spine with a gilt lettered maroon label, blindstamped decoration to the other panels, later bookplate to the front pastedown. 5 plates - 4 hand coloured, including a folding frontispiece map of the geology of England and an uncoloured plate showing basalt columns on Cader Idris. A lovely copy. An itinerant lecturer on geology who while never admitted to the Geological Society did much to encourage and popularise the new science.
