Handsomely bound by George Simpson in contemporary maroon morocco, a.e.g., some very minor rubbing otherwise a lovely set. Governor of Bombay before being appointed High Commissioner in South Africa, Frere's attempts to implement Lord Carnarvon's plan to form a confederation of the various southern African states led to both the Zulu and first Boer War. He was summoned home by Gladstone to face charges of misconduct and died shortly afterwards. Item #35264
