Poems on Several Occasions... With Elegies on the Author's Death [and] Some Account of the Life of the Author.

London: Printed for J. Tonson, and Sold by W. Taylor, 1719. Sixth edition. 12mo. (xxiv), 365, (1) pp. Later 18th century red full straight grained morocco, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered direct to two panels, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Some darkening and rubbing to the spine, otherwise very good. Keynes, 85. The sole separately published eighteenth century edition of Donne's poems, the only other, much later, editions being published as part of Bell's (1779) and Anderson's (1793) collections of British poets. ESTC refers to a frontispiece portrait, however an uncontrolled note qualifies this by stating that only the British Museum catalogue suggests its requirement. Not being reported anywhere else it is almost certain that any such portrait would be supplied from another source. Item #35023
