Venetia [Venice]: Jacobum de Angelis, 1663. Folio, (iv), 433, (1) pp. Engraved title and numerous woodcut diagrams and illustrations in the text, 13 full page etchings at the end of the volume, with a leaf bound in at page 332 containing two half page woodcuts intended for binding in by pp. 332 and 245. A small patch of damp staining almost throughout to the top of the inner margin, with mostly minor loss to a number of leaves, affecting the text in one case (N2) and slightly affecting images in a few more, three related engravings tipped in to the front endpapers. Contemporary quarter vellum, a little worn and marked, lacking the spine label, blue paper boards with some marks and loss, recent repair to the foot of the spine. First published at intervals from 1537 onwards and an important work in both the development and spread of Italian Renaissance architecture, being the first to emphasise practical rather than theoretical aspects of building.
