[Both] Gloucester: [Printed by] John Bellows, [1869]. Sole editions. Two works bound in one. 8vo. 95, (1); 72 pp. Later brown buckram with remnants of earlier cloth spine with gilt lettering preserved, both original printed front wrappers bound and inscribed with the "author's kind regards", the second with an autograph letter from the author mounted on the verso dated 1870. Double page plate featuring a section to the first work, a brightly coloured folding geological map of the courses of the Severn, Avon and Evenlode through the Cotswolds. Very good. Two scarce papers read before meetings of the Cotteswold Club in Wotton-under-Edge. The first and likely the second presentation inscriptions are to Rev. Thomas George Bonney, who taught Geology at St. John's, Cambridge from 1869 until 1881 before moving on to other scientific posts in London. A longstanding member of the Royal Geological Society, he was secretary from 1878-84, president from 1884-86 and was awarded the Wollaston Medal by them in 1889. He was also president of the Mineralogical Society in 1884-86. Just two copies of the first work on Copac, in the Natural History Museum and Leicester University, and no copies of the second work.
