Fifth impression. 8vo. 283, (1) pp. Contemporary brown half morocco, with a leather strip to the fore edge of both boards, over patterned paper, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered direct to to one panel, top edge pale green, gift inscription to one of the front flyleaves - "Stanley W. Davies, Gatesfield, Windermere, with love from Dorothy, Christmas 1940". Frontispiece and 7 black and white photographic plates. The spine slightly darkened with a little mottling to the leather on the sides, very good. An attractive and slightly curious binding. Likely by a gifted amateur, the initials "W.J.W" are discreetly blindstamped to the foot of the rear pastedown. The patterned paper of the boards is typical for the age and is very reminiscent of the style of the Curwen Press. Item #31687
