Original cloth backed boards with a further illustration to the upper cover, some light browning and rubbing. "...'London Types'... brought a completely new look to illustrated books, with forceful images in heavy black that resembled lino prints but were actually hand coloured wood engravings printed by lithography... these influential books owed their straightforward handling of the printed page to the example of early chapbooks, which Nicholson much admired" (Peppin & Micklethwait p215).
