Later maroon half calf, spine with raised bands, old gilt lettered label preserved to one panel and simply gilt decorated to the others, patterned endpapers with earlier yellow endpapers within, the latter with a 20th century ownership inscription plus a another's booklabel, the original flyleaf with a gift inscription dated 1844. Frontispiece, engraved title and 41 plates. The frontispiece and title heavily browned, the other plates with occasional foxing, otherwise very good. Smith, I, 3, noting this edition on page 27. A late issue with the engraved title still reading 1837 but the printed title 1838 and still featuring many of the issue points called for by Smith for the first issue. Item #29883
