Bengal 1921-24.

(1921-24). Oblong 4to. String bound cloth backed brown card boards, handwritten title label to the upper cover. 53 photographs of various sizes, between 20 x 15 cm for some of the scenic shots and 9 x 7 cm for some of the more personal snapshots, some captioned in pencil, mounted on 12 leaves and the rear inner cover. Mild darkening to the covers, very good overall. An interesting collection of amateur photographs illustrating both the country and British colonial life. The early part of the album features scenes in and around Kalchini as well as the Sankosh and Teesta Rivers in Bhutan and West Bengal, with several captioned "Kalimpong Rd". Two photos illustrate the 1922 floods in "Bogra Section", presumably of the nearby Brahmaputra. Some of the more personal snapshots follow, including three images of three British subjects ice skating in Simla in December, 1922. A succeeding group feature wonderful images of some of the same figures at Puri on the coast of Odisha, sporting wonderful conical-shaped rattan swimming hats. The album closes with more family photos, but also some very striking photos of the temple and the festive carriage of Jagannath at Puri plus two of Amingaon back up in Assam - one an atmospheric shot of the Brahmaputra taken from the riverbank.
