Item #29228 De Elocutione. [Title repeated in Greek]. DEMETRIUS PHALEREUS.
De Elocutione. [Title repeated in Greek].

De Elocutione. [Title repeated in Greek].

Florentiæ [Florence]: Apud Iuntas [Giunta], 1552. First separate edition. 8vo. (12), 96, (2) pp, bound without the final blank as often. Later, probably 18th century full calf, spine with raised bands, blindstamped decoration to the boards, the early ownership inscription of a Danto Maria di Franco del Besso to the head of the title page, a later ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. Publisher's engraved device to the title page, repeated in a slightly different style to the verso of the final leaf. The first quire of the main part of the text has been supplied from another, smaller, copy and has been mounted onto wider margined leaves prior to binding so they are flush with the rest of the text block, a little marginal worming to the first quarter of the book, occasional slight staining not affecting the printing, neat repairs to the spine ends and joints. An important work on classical rhetoric by Demetrius of Phalerium (c.350-280 B.C.), edited by Pietro Vettori, only previously appearing in print in a collected edition of Greek oratory and rhetoric published by Aldus in 1508-9.
