De Elocutione. [Title repeated in Greek].

Florentiæ [Florence]: Apud Iuntas [Giunta], 1552. First separate edition. 8vo. (12), 96, (2) pp, bound without the final blank as often. Later, probably 18th century full calf, spine with raised bands, blindstamped decoration to the boards, the early ownership inscription of a Danto Maria di Franco del Besso to the head of the title page, a later ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. Publisher's engraved device to the title page, repeated in a slightly different style to the verso of the final leaf. The first quire of the main part of the text has been supplied from another smaller copy and has been mounted onto wider margined leaves so they are flush with the rest of the text block, evidently done prior to the book being bound, a little marginal worming to the first quarter of the book, the occasional slight staining does not affect the printing either, neat repairs to the spine ends and joints. An important work on classical rhetoric by Demetrius of Phalerium (c.350-280 B.C.), this edition edited by Pietro Vettori. The work had only previously appeared in print in a collected edition of Greek oratory and rhetoric published by Aldus in 1508-9. Item #29228
