"[De Lolme's] work on the English constitution was for several decades the principal authority on the subject. It was influential in the United States, where... it was cited by both supporters and opponents of the 1787 federal constitution... His principal legacy is to have helped disseminate the ideas of Montesquieu to the British reading public in a popular style" (ODNB). Originally published in French in 1771 and in English in 1775.
