Publisher's dark blue cloth, gilt lettered to spines, the "Criticism" with dust jacket. Frontispiece plus 48 maps, diagrams and tables and 10 plates plus 3 folding sketch maps, another 2 full page and 14 diagrams (some two or more to a page). Minor wear to the head of volume I, slight fading to spine of volume IV, the uncommon jacket of the final volume with chips to the upper panel and large losses to the spine and lower panel, a very good set. Churchill's chronicle of the First World War, supplied with the additional volume refuting his analysis of the period 1916-18 contained in volumes three and four of the main work, composed by Colonel The Lord Sydenham of Combe, Admiral Sir Reginald Bacon, General Sir Frederick Maurice, General Sir W.D. Bird and Sir Charles Oman and published the year after those particular volumes were first issued. Item #25451
