The Authorship of the Letters of Junius Elucidated. Including a Biographical memoir of Lieutenant-Colonel Isaac Barré.

London: Printed for the Author, 1848. First edition, large 8vo, xlviii, 96 pp. Double page frontispiece, title vignette with a portrait of the author beneath a folding flap, inscribed from Britton on the fly leaf. Original gilt titled blind stamped cloth, slight wear to the lower joint. "Junius" published popular and often libellous pamphlets between 1768 and 1772, but debate raged about his identity. Sir Philip Francis, 1740-1818, has emerged over time as the most likely candidate, but the matter has never been completely settled. Item #21934
