New York: J.T. Lloyd, 1863. Map dimensions 95 x 125.5 cm, overall dimensions 96 x 127.5 cm. Large folding mid-Civil War map of the United States and adjacent territories, extending as far west as Nebraska, Kansas and "Indian Territory". The southern continuation of Florida shown in an inset to the right edge. Original colour in outline marking out the state boundaries and also the dividing line between the Southern and Union lands. The map backed onto linen not having been dissected, folding between original brown ribbed cloth covers with the original silk ties, publisher's printed label to upper board and advertisement to the folded end section. Spine sympathetically renewed, a few small pinholes at each corner, a minor split at one folded intersection, a very good example. According to the cover label the map was issued in three states: "In Sheets" at $2, "Mounted on Rollers,... Varnished" at $4 and "Mounted on Cloth in Book Form", as here, at $5. The map itself bears a New York imprint, though the cover label gives Lloyd's London address at 1, Strand, W.C. Item #20189

Price: £720.00
